Marlins Divers Shine at Nationals

The YMCA of Greenwich Marlins Diving Team finished its 2019 year-round season in a very strong position as two junior national championships came to a close.

The 2019 USA Diving Junior National Championships (July 29-August 6) came to a close this week in Knoxville, TN at the University of Tennessee’s Allan Jones Aquatic Center. In the 11 & under events, Grayson Ford (Greenwich, CT) finished 20th in the 1-meter semifinals and 13th in the 3-meter semifinals, while Quinn Neyer (Stamford, CT) finished 20th in the 1-meter preliminaries and 11th in the 3-meter preliminaries.

In the Girls 14-15 events, Grace Wu (Greenwich, CT) finished 32nd in the 1-meter preliminaries and 24th in the 3-meter preliminaries. Annie Bingle (Riverside, CT) finished 6th in the 1-meter finals; 7th in the 3-meter finals; 8th in the 3-meter synchronized finals with partner Elizabeth Kaye (Atlanta Diving Association); and 25th in the platform semifinals. “I am so impressed with Annie’s ability to step up in each competition and make her presence known!” said Marlins Head Coach Dylan Korn. “To final in both individual springboard events at the highest level of the junior diving circuit was very exciting to watch.“

In the Girls 16-18 age group 3-meter preliminary, Madelyn Seltzer (Scarsdale, NY) finished 26th, and Katherine Greenberg (Greenwich, CT) finished 37th.

During July 15-22, eight Marlins divers competed in the Amateur Athletic Union’s 2019 Diving National Championships in Riverside, CA. Madelyn Seltzer won the AAU national title on 1m for the Girls 16 age group. Seltzer was also 4th in the 3-meter final and 10th in the platform final. “Madelyn competed so well at the AAU Nationals as well as USA Diving Nationals. Being able to qualify for both national meets and walking away as an AAU 1m Champion is a huge accomplishment,” said Coach Korn.

The other Marlins divers competing at AAU Nationals finished as follows. In the Girls 13 age group, Ava Vranos (Old Greenwich, CT) finished 15th in the 1-meter preliminaries and 13th in the 3-meter preliminaries. Annelise Enters (Darien, CT) finished 20th in the 1-meter preliminaries. In the Boys 13 age group, Declan Bannerton (Darien, CT) finished 21st in the 1-meter preliminaries and 20th in the 3-meter preliminaries.

In the Girls 14 age group, Veronica Fyfe (Hillsdale, NJ) finished 23rd in the 1-meter preliminaries and 7th in the 3-meter finals. In the Girls 16 age group, Devon Ott (Rye, NY) finished 14th in both the 1-meter and 3-meter preliminaries.
